Hospitals, surgeries and other care environments are complex institutions with complex workflows. The security of medical data is an essential part of this process. Sony understand this issue and are pleased to introduce the UPB-C10*1 Printable Disc Drive and UPV-50SDR*2 Thermal Label Disc. Developed to meet the growing demand for a reliable, easy method of producing labelled data discs in the medical environment, the UPB-C10 Printable Disk Drive performs both data writing and label printing in a small, 5.25-inch bay-sized body.
Users do not need to manipulate two separate products (one for data writing, another for label printing) or turn discs over during the production process. This not only helps increase workflow efficiency in a highly cost-effective way, it is also an essential tool to help eliminate human error, reducing the risk of medical records being assigned to the wrong patient.
*1 The UPB-C10 is packaged with five units in a box as the 5UPB-C10. *2 The label printing function of the UPB-C10 is available only with the UPV-50SDR.

The UPB-C10 supports both data writing and label printing in a single unit. It is not necessary to have a separate disc writer and label printer.

UPB Management Software
The supplied software allows users to reliably and easily create labelled data discs from their preferred PC or other host device. Their application software can be linked to the UPB-C10 by writing job files into a shared folder. The supplied UPB Management Software controls both data writing via Serial ATA and label printing via USB from a single job*3. Variable information (such as the patient name and the date of disc creation) can be specified in advance and automatically printed on the disc. UPB Management Software consists of the following software modules: · UPB Service Service for job file interpretation and UPB-C10 control Job queue to monitor and control jobs Application to create template data for label printing Application for easy disc creation

The process of data writing and label printing is seamlessly controlled by a host device, preventing errors that are typical with a manual process such as data mismatch or incorrect labelling.

The UPB-C10 incorporates direct thermal printing technology, which means users don't have to worry about replacing ink cartridges or ribbons. This also cuts costs because users don't have to buy additional cartridges or ribbons. Also, since this is a dry process, discs can be handled and delivered to the customer immediately after printing is completed.
