Clean install using the DVD
Clean install using the Windows 8.1 Setup DVD
Use the Windows 8.1 Setup DVD that you purchased from the Microsoft website or a retailer shop to update Windows 8 to Windows 8.1. All your applications and files will be deleted.
Some data files used in Windows 8 are saved in the C:Windows.old folder. You may delete this folder to free up disk space.
Make sure to back up important data to an external hard drive prior to the installation.

Clean install using the DVD
Insert the Windows 8.1 Setup DVD. Wait until it runs automatically. If the DVD does not run automatically, double click setup.exe.
Select Go online to install updates now (recommended)
and press Next.
Enter the product key included in the DVD and press Next.
Read the End Users License Agreement. Check I agree and press Next.
Select Nothing and start installing Windows 8.1.
After the installation is completed and your system will be rebooted, follow the instructions displayed on the screen.
